LCS mourns the loss of Carlos del Toro

Date:
Monday, February 22, 2010
On February 22, 2010, the HIV/AIDS community lost a great person in the fight against     HIV/AIDS.  At Latino Community Services (then Latinos/as Contra SIDA), Carlos was the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Coordinator who provided HIV treatment advocacy and worked tirelessly on prevention issues and efforts to empower people living with HIV/AIDS.

Carlos was not only an advocate but also lived with HIV/AIDS.  He spoke in such places as the White House and appeared in the "Christina" show on Univision. All of us at Latino Community Services extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Carlos del Toro, who was a very dear friend.

Carlos brought an exceptional intelligence, warmth, and dedication to his work.  It is heartbreaking to lose another friend and colleague in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

We cannot afford to be silent about the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on Latinos/Hispanics. We owe it to the millions of Latinos at risk for HIV and living with HIV/AIDS to continue Carlos’ legacy and fight for prevention education, treatment, and an end to this disease.

Donations have been requested to pay for funeral expenses.  To donate, please go to: www.lcs-ct.org/donate and designate your gift to "Carlos del Toro's funeral expenses"  100% of your donations will go for this purpose.
