Project PIENSA
People Informed Empower Neighborhoods to Stop AIDS
A community-level intervention designed to help women (ages 15-34) and
their partners reduce their risk for HIV infection. This intervention
uses peer networkers and a community network of businesses, schools, churches,
and other community organizations to increase safer sex practices in the
Latino community. Together, we can change community norms and decrease
new HIV infections.
How to get involved:
Peer Networkers: Peer Networkers are community members interested in doing
outreach in their neighborhood to educate their peers about safer sex
practices. In order to be eligible, you must be a Latina female between
the ages of 15 and 34 and live in the Frog Hollow or South Green neighborhoods
in Hartford. (Between Wethersfield Ave. and I-84 and Capitol Ave. and
Lincoln St.)
Community Network:
The community network is made up of businesses, schools, churches, and
other community organizations located in the Frog Hollow or South Green
neighborhoods in Hartford. As a member of the community network, you may
display agency and program materials, role model stories, offer space
for HIV 101 presentations, or simply show the program logo in your window.
Your level of participation is up to you!
