Our History
Our Past
In 1986, a group of Latinos with HIV/AIDS, social workers and community leaders mobilized and started organizing a series of support groups for individuals recently diagnosed with HIV. As the epidemic grew and more Latinos in the Hartford area became infected with the virus that causes AIDS, these individuals took a leadership role and started advocating for more culturally appropriate programs and interventions to halt the spread of the disease. Out of this, Latino Community Services, formerly known as Latinos Contra SIDA, was born.
