Development
The Healthy Latino Families & Communities Project
This new state-wide initiative enables faith and community-based
organizations that serve Latino Families to strengthen
their organizational capacity and develop new competencies
in the areas of HIV prevention & care and Substance Abuse
related issues. The program is free to participating organizations
and provides Capacity Building, Technical Assistance,
and Mini-Grants through its Learning Academy.
Real AIDS Prevention Project (RAPP)
A community-level HIV prevention intervention designed to
help women (aged 15-34) and their partners reduce their risk
for HIV infection. The intervention objectives are to increase
safer sex practices, through one-on-one and small group sessions
within the target population. The community at large
and a peer-volunteer network are engaged in an effort to
encourage community norms that incorporate healthy choices
and increase knowledge of risk behaviors.
Community Awareness and Education
Through special events LCS staff promotes HIV/AIDS education
and prevention in collaboration with area organizations
and participate in national efforts such as the annual Latino
AIDS Awareness Day and The HIV Testing Day. We also host special health-related
and recreational events for clients.
